Susan Mulvanerton Grau says the day she came to hear me speak in 2012, she temporarily lost her vision and was 90 pounds heavier…but now “she sees” a different life. She recently contacted me to share this story and I wanted to share her I Dare Me life with you. Here it is:
I first heard LuAnn talk in February 2012. She talked about her adventures, and proceeded to explain how she tried a hula hoop. That day, I had lost my vision temporarily in the morning. However, I really wanted to see her, so I went to the event. I left right after her talk where my doctor stated that I Had cataracts. So I had my cataracts repaired, and also bought a hula hoop. I figured that the hula hoop would help me lose weight. However, I was also scheduled for gastric bypass surgery at Penn. So, going off of LuAnn’s inspiration, I had 3 surgeries in the next 6 weeks. Keeping in mind, that I need to approach each day anew, I proceeded to start trying things that were interesting to me. I took classes for my job, planned and successfully ran my 40th HS Reunion, when someone dropped out, and it looked like no one could do it. This was only the end of June. I continued to be successful in my weight loss, and continued to make my dramatic changes. I changed offices, and got involved in my community, such as volunteering for political change, and at my church’s CCD classes. So, one year after my surgery, and of course LuAnn’s motivational speech, I joined a Dragonboat team on the Delaware River. I have lost 90 lbs, and totally changed my health. I no longer have sleep apnea, or High Blood Pressure. I am a tiny, happy, and competitive woman, who just happened to have 8 children, and 6 grandchildren. I am open to experiences, and love trying things. I am so different, my old friends literally don’t recognize me physically, and emotionally; until I tell them who I am. So….I sat in the audience, and never even spoke with Lu Ann, but she inspired me to get up and accept the challenge.
Well, Susan and I have been corresponding a little since she told me this story. I wish I could say I Dare Me is a great weight loss program and will change everyone’s life like this. That’d be nice wouldn’t it? But hey….Susan shows anything is possible when you are ready for change and ready to get your life “unstuck”. Thanks for sharing and inspiring Susan.
