Betty is from outside of Indianapolis. She reached out to me to tell me she is doing something new every day this year and I asked her to share her story. I love that she stood on her head. It’s silly, it’s brave and it reminds us that we need to turn our life on its head sometimes to get right side up.
Kudos Betty. I’m behind you.
I am the mother of 4 children, aged 40, 38, 37, and 19. Last August, my youngest son went away to college. I was lost for a while. I had been raising children for over 40 years and now I wasn’t sure what I was supposed to do. Life was kind of stagnant. I felt like I was getting old.
I lost 43 pounds in the last year and have been exercising so my physical shape is much better.
When I read Lu Ann’s book it ignited a flame inside me. She was doing exciting things and she was in her 50’s. I wanted to do exciting things and live life. I decided at 59 I could still do many things. It was time to drop the fear and try things.
I have done a few things now, some really easy, some a little more difficult.
When I decided to do a headstand it was on a whim. After I thought about it, I knew I was just a little bit crazy. My husband agreed with the crazy part. I think he was more afraid than I was. He didn’t want anything broken, especially my body parts.
I was exhilarated just thinking about doing a headstand. It was scary, but such an adrenalin rush. I was only up for a few minutes. My head hurt, but I did it!! I began to feel like I can do anything. I hope to make it through the year without any injuries, but if I do I think it will be worth it.
