Something keeps coming up in my everyday conversations with friends, family, students and clients… “I need some hope and inspiration!” Hope and inspiration to feel uplifted, to keep going, to create, live positively in what can feel like a negative world.
So turn off the TV, get off your Facebook, pick your head up from your devices and BREATHE, (after you read this because I’m assuming you are reading this on some device).
Here are some ideas to invite hope and inspiration into your day.
MOVE MOVE MOVE MOVE MOVE!
Get up in the morning and run, walk, dance, bike or do the hokey pokey. Work up a sweat. Create the feel good chemical endorphins that will help you see everything through a more positive lens and help give you the fortitude and strength to be your best during the day. Your body will feel good but your brain will feel even better.
Make sure you laugh today. Even if you feel like there’s not much to laugh about, we physically need it. Call the friend that always makes you laugh. Color, do a puzzle, play a game, play a sport, blow bubbles (you know I like bubbles). Play gives us perspective. Play helps us be more creative and productive in our lives. Pull out a card game or board game. Go do something like Escape the Room! (Just did it. So much fun). One hour of play can lift you for the rest of the day and one hour of silly can help you come up with a game plan for the serious issues or actions you may be contemplating.
LISTEN TO MUSIC!
You know I’m a news junkie. Well, I’ve started substituting music into some of my normal news time. Notice what happens to your body, your brain when you hear music you love and when you sing the words. It’s okay to take a break from the news when you feel your blood pressure going up.
BE KIND; DO A KARMIC GIVE-BACK DARE!
During my year of firsts, I learned the best immediate emotional lifts can come from karmic givebacks..the day I gave out free hugs, gave away my bed bath and beyond coupons to strangers, let everyone cut in front of me all day, put quarters in parking meters about to expire, paid the toll of someone behind me, gave out sincere compliments all day. Try it. Karmic give-backs boomerang right back to you. Volunteer for the cause of your choice. You can be the kind of human being you want others to be. Studies show when you are generous others will follow your example.
Whenever possible meet face to face with people. We need that human interaction and conversation. We need to see people’s eyes and expression. It’s not the same as interpreting tweets, texts, and emails. You can’t reach across the table and touch their hand or comfort them or hug them when you are online. We crave and need human connection more than ever so make the meeting in person. It’s worth the extra energy and time.
Unfortunately, hope and inspiration don’t necessarily bonk us on the head. We have to give these feelings a friendly environment, a healthy place to live, an open invitation to be part of our day.
I hope this helps.
