I woke up this morning feeling a little…meh. Not my usual jump out of bed, hit the ground running thing. Just…blah. Nothing in my head.
Nothing creative. Blank.
I dragged my butt to the gym into a group workout class I’m not that familiar with. It took 15 minutes. 15 minutes!
“Ohh. I know what I’m going to do about that thesis I need to write.”
“I have an idea for a new newsletter at work.”
I ran out to write things on a piece of paper. Now that I think about it, it’s happened before; some creative burst while exercising. Like that time I went to SoulCycle.
The brain can get creative while you’re working out. Studies show it’s true.
You start with a blank slate. You start moving. BOOM! Ideas.
PH.D. Keith Sawyer at The University of North Carolina studies creativity. He says, “Physical activity gets your mind into the bodily experience, so those subconscious connections can pop up”.
There’s more blood flow coming to the brain and the feel-good endorphins are released.
Even a brisk walk can get ideas flowing. Steve Jobs was famous for his “walk and talk” meetings.
Blog post? No problem. I got it.
