There is an art, or rather a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss. ~Douglas Adams, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
CAN YOU SEE ANYTHING????
That was the main point of conversation at the Red Bull Flugtag event on the Camden waterfront today.
Apparently, I was just one of thousands curious to see live and in person flutag teams running off a pier and crashing their flying thingamagiggy’s into the Delaware River.
As a news person, I’ll admit I’m somewhat spoiled. My press pass did not get me diddlysquat. No red carpet to a front row seat. Me, my husband and NBC10 photog Rich Notaro (all of us with cameras of various type in hand) had to hustle for a view.
Fortunately, we’re pretty good hustlers. Eventually we found some friendly folk who let us stand on a fence. Anyway, in the end it was fun and next year I’m going to do what the smart people did and either stand on the bridge or get on a boat for a birdseye view.
Watch the video for the poor Phillies Phanatic Flugtag. Major League Baseball insisted they couldn’t use the phanatic brand and they had to take the head off at the last minute! The team made a good showing anyway but I am partial to the Men in Underwear.
