Just a little more kindness…is that too much to ask?
I’ve been thinking about how uncivil and cruel the world can seem right now and how frustrating it can feel. You may feel like it’s beyond your control to do anything about anything.
Holiday stress at its finest!
You might even be concerned about the conversations that may happen around your Thanksgiving table.
What if your guests explode, right?
You get my drift.
But, I’ve been trying to remind myself of something I hope may help you, too.
Every single one of our actions, our words, kind or unkind, supportive or not, empathetic or not…that’s all in our control, every minute of every day.
We get to decide.
So, I’m deciding to dare myself to be kind and spread some extra kindness just because it feels like we all need it. We all need to be kind to each other.
I need it.
You know you need it.
What does that mean?
Noticing the people who are working hard all around us.
- Eye contact.
- A smile.
- More thank yous.
- More “please”.
- More civility.
- Open doors for everyone.
- Let everyone cut in front of you.
- More hugs.
- More listening.
- Less judging.
To those who say “soft”, “weak”, I say “strength”, “power” to let your life ripple out in a positive way.
To my friend who I vociferously debated about the impeachment hearings last week, I’m sorry. You know who you are. I would not call my words kind.
If we can’t talk, my friend, who can?
One to one, we make a difference.
One to one we can be civil. One to one we can exhibit the behavior we’d like to see around us.
So I dare myself and I dare you to be just a little kinder this week.
